Too many people these days live the lives complaining about every little thing. Now matter what they have, they always want more and are never happy with what they have been given. Their complaints are usually something like:
And the list goes on and on.... Well, what these people don't realize is that the more they complain, the more life brings of exactly what they are complaining about. Instead, if they only learned to focus on something else, something more positive in their life, then they would be surprise how they could not only turn their day around, but their whole life. No matter what your belief is, you get more of what you focus on. Think about it this way...if you have a headache and instead of taking some aspirin, you just keep complaining that your head hurts. Eventually, all you can think about is that your head hurts. (As a migraine sufferer, believe me, I've done this even after medicating as much as possible.) What happens next is that your mind achieves what you believe and ask for, therefore, your head continues to hurt and becomes even more unbearable to you. Instead, you need to refocus. This is true in all areas of your life. Try this exercise, every time you say something negative about you or your life, put a dollar in a jar. At the end of the week, count them up. I bet you'd be shocked. What we need to do is refocus our energy and thoughts into more positive and productive manners. For example, when you wake up in the morning, think of and physically say (so that you are not only affirming them to you but announcing them to the whole universe) five things that you are grateful for. Such as:
1. I'm grateful to be alive! 2. I'm grateful that the sun is shining! 3. I'm grateful that I have a family that loves me and stands by me! 4. I'm grateful that I have food to eat! 5. I'm grateful that I have a job so that I have money to pay my bills and buy the things I need! What this does is it causes you to instantly be happy and starts your day off with positive thoughts. This will also help you keep negative thoughts out of your mind. So, when you feel yourself drifting into the "negative zone", stop for a moment, close your eyes and take a breath. In order to quiet your mind, focus on your breathing and each breath that you take. As you do this, focus on relaxing all of your body, including your mind. Actually feel the tension leaving your body. Now, focus on something that you love, something that makes you happy and makes you smile. Again, state five things that you are grateful for and why you are grateful for them. This will help you reaffirm that instead of just trying to think positive, you actually have reasons to be positive.
This concept is called Living in an attitude of Gratitude. Try it. You'd be surprised how quickly you can turn your mood around. About the Author: Amy Rodgers is a freelance writer who writes to help people and for the pure joy of writing. |
