Today, shopping is not what it used to be. The days of running out in the cold to go to the mall to buy that birthday gift you need is rare. Today, shopping can also be done online, which saves you that cold trip to the mall. However, shopping online is not always as easy as you hope. Often times, you can search for hours for one particular product and still not know where to buy it.

There is also the risk of security when shopping online. Many people, generally the older generations, are afraid to shop online for the risk of identity theft. They are afraid of having their information, including credit card information, stolen. So, how do you know that it is safe to shop online?

Here are 5 tips to shopping online:

  1. Make sure you are shopping with reputable companies. General guidelines, if they have retail storefronts, you are definitely safe.
  2. Always make sure that when you go to checkout, there is a lock in the bottom right hand side of the page. This ensures the page is secure.
  3. If you are unsure, search online to see if the website or product you are about to purchase is a scam.
  4. Check to see if there are any complaints that have been filed with the Better Business Bureau.
  5. Check out shopping sites, such as Cybershoppingspot .

In the end, you can definitely save yourself time and money by shopping online. And, you will find many reputable companies that you can shop with. Just use caution. As the old adage states, buyer beware.
