When it comes to buying life insurance, people are so turned off by the thought of planning for their death that they will come up with many reasons why they shouldn't.  In fact, this is such a common occurrence that we decided that we should show this list to you.  Here are the top 7 most common excuses people come up with as to why they do not need life insurance:

  1. I'm too young.
  2. My family won't need the money.
  3. I won't need it for retirement.
  4. I can't afford it.
  5. I'll do it tomorrow.
  6. My family will have enough money to live.

In a perfect world, everyone would have started saving for retirement when they started their very first job and wouldn't stop until they said their final goodbye at their retirement party.  However, this is not a perfect world and everything doesn't go exactly as we plan.

Life throws us unexpected curveballs and knocks us off our plans.  Whether it's losing our job, an unexpected illness, the loss of a loved one and their respective income, or sending a child to college, all of these examples can cause us to lower or stop our contributions to our retirement plans.

Knowing how much to save for retirement is just as illuding as the location of the fountain of youth.  Luckily, we have tools to help us plan for retirement and decide how much to save.

Information Needed

            Usually deciding how much to save for retirement is based on the following:

  • Your current age
  • Your current income
  • Your projected retirement age
  • Your projected retirement income
  • Are you married?
  • How much money you have already saved for retirement
  • How is the money invested
  • How much you save annually towards your retirement

By answering these questions and filling them into a Retirement calculator, you can not only decide how much you need to save for retirement but also determine whether you are on track or if you need to step up the pace.
